Quick answer

Where can I buy genuine glutathione cream in India? Your safest bets are the brand’s own website, the brand’s official store on Amazon or Flipkart, and pharmacies you trust. Before you use any cream, check that the pack shows the manufacturer’s or importer’s name and address, a batch number, the MRP, and the manufacturing and expiry dates. And be wary of any price far below MRP.

Glutathione creams sell well in India, and anything that sells well gets copied. A fake is worse than wasted money. Unlabelled “fairness” creams have been found to contain steroids or mercury, and both can do serious damage to your skin. This is how to buy safely.

The safest places to buy

  1. The brand’s official website. The product comes straight from the company, and you know exactly who to contact if something’s wrong.
  2. The brand’s official store on Amazon or Flipkart. Look at the “Sold by” name, and look for a “Visit the [brand] Store” link on the page.
  3. Pharmacies and big beauty retailers you trust, the kind that buy directly from brands or their authorised distributors.

Buying on Amazon and Flipkart: what to check

  • Seller name. Is it the brand itself, or an authorised seller? A random seller with only a handful of ratings is a gamble.
  • Seller rating and reviews. Go straight to the 1-star reviews and look for words like “fake”, “different smell” or “no seal”.
  • Price. If it’s far below the usual MRP, that’s the biggest warning sign of all.
  • Photos. Compare the listing’s photos with the ones on the brand’s official website.

What must be printed on a genuine pack?

Packaged products sold in India have to carry certain details on the label. Look for:

  • The name and address of the manufacturer, or of the importer if the product is imported
  • Net quantity (for example, 30 g)
  • MRP, inclusive of all taxes
  • Manufacturing date and expiry date (or “best before”)
  • A batch or lot number
  • A full list of ingredients
  • Customer care details, meaning a phone number or an email

If any of these are missing, don’t use the product.

Red flags that point to a fake

  • A broken or missing seal, or a tub that looks like it’s been used
  • Spelling mistakes or blurry printing on the box
  • A colour, smell or texture that’s different from your last genuine pack
  • Sold loose, in plain jars, or only through Instagram DMs with no business details
  • Claims like “fair in 7 days”, “permanent whitening” or “100% guaranteed”
  • Very fast, dramatic lightening. This can be a sign of steroids, so stop using the product and see a dermatologist.

Think you bought a fake? Do this

  1. Stop using it straight away.
  2. Take photos of the pack, the batch number and your invoice.
  3. Get in touch with the brand’s customer care and ask them to check the batch.
  4. Ask the marketplace for a return, and report the seller.
  5. If your skin has reacted, see a dermatologist and take the product along with you.

Common questions

Are glutathione creams sold in pharmacies in India?
Many are, especially in the bigger pharmacy chains, though it depends on the brand and your city.

Is a Korean glutathione cream always better?
Not automatically. The ingredients, the label details and the seller tell you far more than the country it came from.

Can I check if a cosmetic is genuine online?
The easiest way is to contact the brand’s customer care and give them the batch number printed on the pack.
