Quick answer
What is the best time to take glutathione? No single time has strong evidence behind it. Many people take their tablets on an empty stomach, in the morning or between meals, since food may compete with absorption. Creams do best at night. Taking it at the same time each day matters more than which hour you pick.
Once you’ve decided to try glutathione, the next thing most people ask is when to take it. This is what we know about timing, for tablets and for creams.
Glutathione tablets and capsules
No study has directly compared taking it in the morning with taking it at night. The usual advice comes from how absorption works:
- Empty stomach. Glutathione is made of amino acids, and food that’s rich in protein may compete with it for absorption. Many labels say to take it 30 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after one.
- Morning or night. Both are fine. Pick whichever time you’ll actually remember every day.
- With vitamin C. Lots of products pair the two, because they work together as antioxidants.
- Special forms. Liposomal and effervescent tablets may come with their own instructions, so follow the label.
If the tablets upset your stomach, it’s better to take them with a light snack than to give up. If the trouble doesn’t go away, check with your doctor.
Glutathione cream: night is best
There are a few reasons for this. Your skin repairs and renews itself faster while you sleep. At night there’s no sunlight to break down ingredients like vitamin C and kojic acid. And a richer cream simply feels comfortable at bedtime.
Put on sunscreen the next morning so you don’t undo the good work. Our guide on how to apply a glutathione night cream has the steps.
A simple daily schedule
| Time | What to do |
|---|---|
| Morning, before breakfast | Glutathione tablet, if you take one and your doctor is fine with it |
| Morning, after washing your face | Sunscreen, SPF 30+ |
| Night, before bed | Cleanse, then apply glutathione night cream |
Consistency beats timing
Whatever time you choose, keep to it every day for 8 to 12 weeks before you judge the results. Skipping days will slow you down far more than the time of day ever could. For more, see how long glutathione takes to work and our page on glutathione dosage.
Common questions
Can I take glutathione at night?
Yes. If night is easier for you to remember, take it at least 2 hours after dinner.
Can I take glutathione with coffee or tea?
There’s no clear evidence for or against it. Plain water on an empty stomach is the simplest choice.
Can I use the cream in the morning?
You can, as long as you put sunscreen over it. Night is still the better time.
